Gianfranco Gallo crafts some of the World’s Greatest White Wines!
A legacy that continues its evolution. The unswerving dedication of the Gallo family to vineyards and wines, dating back over a century, is rooted in the hard-work and determination of the family. Located just 5km east of Slovenia and 80km south of the Alps, this unique terroir is the backbone of the winery. Deep, calcium-rich soils created by glacial erosion, constant wind from the mountains, long daylight hours and a Mediterranean climate … all contribute crucial components.
Chardonnay has been a focus and particular passion along with distinct Friulian and French clones of Sauvignon Blanc, Friulano, Pinot Grigio, Malvasia and recently new plantings of Merlot and Pinot Noir. The stunning new cellar sees the wines treated in a completely anaerobic environment. Crushing & de-stemming, long maceration, and pressing are all performed under the protection of nitrogen to preserve aromatics. The wines are aged in a combination of older and new barriques and not released onto the market until 2 years old. Indeed, Gianfranco holds back wines to be released with age. These are stunning wines ‘young’ but truly inspirational if you can get your hands on them with age. To be treasured, savoured and enjoyed.
