An artisanal story, from an historical region, that stretches back to 1628.
Puglia is a much-maligned region, still mostly dominated by large co-ops. But some tiny jewels of estate wineries exist. And the Perrone Capano family has owned this Azienda since the early 1600s. It is a mere 15km from the coast, just inland from the town of Trani, is 300m in elevation, 14ha in size with an annual production of 50,000 bottles. In this small DOC, farming and production methods are organic with biodynamic practices. This is an historical region dating back to the Middle Ages where Trani Cathedral and Castel del Monte stand as a testament to this once influential town. The family has grown indigenous varieties throughout its history, and Nero di Troia, the most interesting indigenous variety in the appellation is their signature. It is a unique age-worthy wine and absolutely worth investigating. All the wines are highly enjoyable with impressive pedigree and capacity to evolve over time. If you are interested in discovering something different, these wines are for you.
