The ancient history, the reputation of Louis Barruol, and the unique geological features make this one of the elite producers in the Rhone region.
Château de Saint Cosme is an exceptional estate that has been in Louis’ family since 1490. This is truly an historical site with perfectly preserved Gallo-Roman fermentation vats. It is also a geologically complex estate located at the (very rare) crossing of two geological faults which provides an extraordinary diversity of soils to the terroir. Add to this a cool, late ripening microclimate that helps define Louis’ Gigondas with the ability to be powerful and refined at the same time. The vines are extremely old, and the organic viticulture respects the ancient traditions of the estate.
Louis also crafts a selection of ‘negociant-vigneron’ wines labeled as Saint Cosme, without ‘Château’, from a selection of the great terroirs of Northern & Southern Rhône. Throughout the range, these are remarkable, balanced, age-worthy wines. We are fortunate to receive an annual allocation that covers the breadth of his offerings. Certainly, wines for the cellar, to enjoy with esteemed company.
