Rouanne is an historical estate located on a one-block monopole slope which is the quintessence of Vinsobres.
Château de Rouanne is the 3rd estate in our portfolio owned by Louis Barruol (see also Château de Saint Cosme and Forge Estate). We hold Louis in exceptionally high esteem. Located in the relatively unknown appellation of Vinsobres, which was elevated to its own AOC in 2006, overlooking Mt. Ventoux from the north. A medieval castle was established on a 2,000-year old Gallo Roman villa. The property spans a total of 70ha in the western part of Vinsobres on a southeast facing slope.
This was one of the primary sources of fruit for Louis’ exceptional Saint Cosme Côtes du Rhône, so he knew the property well. When he purchased the estate in 2018 he noted ‘this is my last big project’. He firmly believes, over time, he can achieve at Château de Rouanne what he has achieved at Château de Saint Cosme, already working on identifying his best plots for his as yet undetermined, ‘Lieu-dit’ project. The main wine already has many of the hallmarks of his wines in Gigondas, an elegant, approachable wine that would go perfectly with roasted meats and game.
