Domaine Méo-Camuzet

Vosne-Romanée - Côte de Nuits, Burgundy

Domaine Méo-Camuzet is one of the most prestigious and sought after domaines in the Côte de Nuits.

In 1984 Jean-Nicolas took over the running of the estate from his father, at the tender age of 20. He was fortunate to be mentored by long-time winemaker for Méo-Camuzet, Henri Jayer, who was himself a long-time tenant-farmer. After completing his studies, and with his fathers’ blessing and full confidence, Jean-Nicolas set about crafting wines his own way, experimenting with new techniques in the vineyard and cellar. Jean-Nicolas strives to create wines that combine structure and finesse, concentration and charm. It is important that the personality of the terroir and vintage be respected. His viticulture seeks to favour natural balances, yields are kept under control, harvesting is carried out by hand, grapes are sorted prior to the winemaking which is carried out with minimal interference. Although there is no official certification, the vineyards are farmed organically. Wines are aged carefully in a combination of new and used oak. Jean-Nicolas tends over 25ha, 18ha of which he owns, producing 30 cuvées each vintage. He is the largest vineyard owner in Vosne Romanée.  Those in the know will not need to be told how special, and rare these wines are, considered some of the very best in the region.  Allocations are incredibly small, and the list of people wishing to get their hands on the wines is long. If you are lucky enough to get a few bottles, treasure them with the very special people in your life.
