Hofstätter

Termeno-Tramin, Alto Adige

Our family never rests on tradition alone. Each generation charts its own course.

Alto Adige is a unique region. Once Austrian, it is now Italian but with a distinctly German accent. Hofstätter is equally unique in the region. Firstly, they farm 50ha on both sides of the Adige River, with very distinct terroir, and secondly, Martin’s grandfather was the first in the region to establish the practice of isolating the best vineyards into separate lots. (Still today, much of the production is controlled by co-ops.) Stagnation is not an option for Martin Foradori and his family. The historic cellar in the village of Tramin now boasts state of the art technology with a precise optical sorting system and the family are exploring the use of innovative concrete barrels and terracotta vessels.

The vineyard sites, located in the foothills of the majestic Dolomite mountains, have been carefully selected over the years.  Each varietal is grown on the high-elevation slopes where it is best suited. The range is divided into three distinct tiers: classic, village, and single-vineyard. The single-vineyard range is designated ‘Vigna’ differentiating them from the village wines that are sourced from multiple vineyard sites. The wines are pure, classic expressions of traditional varieties and incredibly food-friendly. Alto Adige is a spectacular region and is quite rightly starting to shine. Enjoy these wines with food, with friends and with nature.
