A family history and legacy stretching back to 1888.
The Glaetzer family have been part of the viticultural heritage of the Barossa Valley since 1888 and are considered true Barons of the Barossa. Ben (Glaetzer), who has been at the helm since 2001, is the driving force behind the family winery. He makes unique, elegant wines with minimal intervention, which are regarded as true classics and unmistakably Barossan. The latest edition, ‘The Eye of Ra’, is created to eclipse all that has come before it and truly champion the Barossa Valley.
Ben’s mission is to focus on the production of small-volume, premium Barossa Valley wines. The fruit is sourced from 80–110 year-old, non-grafted, low yielding bush vines in the northern Barossa sub-appellation of Ebenezer. Ferments receive an extended period of time on skins to add softness, palate structure and tannin development. The wine is transferred to French and American barrels for natural malolactic fermentation and 12-18 months of aging, depending on the wine. These are iconic wines to enjoy on special occasions.
