A restoration project of dedication and love.
Château Val Joanis is located in the Provence-Alpes-Côtes d’Azur region of the southern Rhône valley. Built on the site of a Roman Villa, the property fell into ruins during the 19th century. Purchased in 1977 by Jean-Louis Chancel, the estate would be revived to its former glory. Over the next 20 years he planted 186ha of vines and commissioned the creation of a modern on-site winery. During this time, his wife set about creating a garden masterpiece that encapsulates the property today.
The estate totals 460ha between 250-450m elevations. Multiple vineyard blocks, with extremely varied soil composition, allow for complex, characterful wines. But this is rosé territory, with the majority of the production going to a variety of rosé bottlings. AOC Luberon rosé can include up to 20% white grapes co-fermented with red grapes, but blending of white & red grapes is not permitted to make rosé. Annually, Val Joanis ‘Tradition’ rosé is available on vintages shelves and there is no better way to celebrate the lazy days of summer.
