WÖLFFER ESTATE VINEYARDS, Sagaponack, North Fork of Long Island

Founded in 1988 by Christian Wölffer, the estate is now in the hands of his children, Joey & Marc, and winemaker/partner Roman Roth. Winemaker since 1992, Roman has extensive experience in California, Australia, and his native Germany. Not surprisingly, the style of Wölffer wines is more European than New World.

The heart of the estate is 55 acres of certified sustainable vineyards in Sagaponack, on the east end of Long Island. Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are the primary varietals, with small plantings of Trebbiano, Pinot Noir and Vignole. An extensive range of wines is produced from estate and purchased fruit, as well as cider and a nifty line of spirits.

Wölffer’s wines have appeared on the annual Top 100 lists of both Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast.
