This estate, owned by the Baccarelli family and managed by Luca Baccarelli, is located in the stunning hills of central Umbria, near Todi, only 90 minutes North East of Rome. All 90 hectares are farmed organically, but only 12 of those are vineyards. The rest of the farm is devoted to olives, cereals and free-range Cinta Sinese pigs; the famous Tuscan breed that provides exceptional salumi, finocchiona, fresh sausage, capocollo, lardo and prosciutto. There is also an array of solar panels, which provide all the electricity required by the farm and winery, as well as the attached restaurant and inn.
Roccafiore was established in 2000, with the planting of vineyards at 380 meters above sea level. The first commercial vintage was 2005, and the stunning, immaculate, modern (gravity-fed) winery was completed in 2006. About 90 000 bottles are produced annually, and the wines are certified organic. The vineyard comprises several parcels within the estate, planted to local varietals: Grechetto di Todi, Trebbiano Spoletino, Sangiovese, Sagrantino and Montepulciano. Inspired by the vineyards of the Alto Adige, Roccafiore's vineyards are planted to high density using a similar micro-terrace designed by oenologist Hartmann Dona.
