2015 'CVR'

The Quilceda Creek 2015 CVR' Columbia Valley Red Wine is a wonderful preview into the incredible 2015 vintage.  A combination of all our vineyard sites (Champoux, Galitzine, Palengat, and Wallula Gap), it is filled with satisfying red and blue fruits, smoke, spice and minerals.  One of the best CVRs to date, it is the first vintage of CVR that will bear the new label showing an iridescent black version of the classic gold Quilceda Creek label. This blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot will be best enjoyed over the next 15 years.

2014 Palengat

96 points – Jeb Dunnuck, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The sensational 2014 Palengat Vineyard is loaded with notions of chocolate covered plums, licorice, roasted herbs, and graphite/lead pencil shavings. Up there with the top vintages of the cuvee, this full-bodied, rounded and hedonistic 2014 shines in the vintage, has no hard edges, gorgeous purity, and plenty of ripe, sweet tannin. It's a serious mouthful of a Cabernet and will drink nicely for 10-15 years."

The 2014 Quilceda Creek Palengat Proprietary Red Wine comes from Champoux, Palengat, Lake Wallula and Wallula Gap Vineyards which are located in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA.  This highly expressive blend has violet infused plum and crème de cassis fruit that coats the entire palate with accents of five spice powder, black truffles, vanilla and minerals.  Aged for 21 months in new French oak, it is a blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc.

About Quilceda Creek

This is quite a remarkable story.  Established in 1978 by Alex Golitzin, Quilceda is located outside Seattle, and owns vineyards in eastern Washington — Galitzine Vineyard in Red Mountain, plus the Pelengat and Champoux vineyards, both in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA — as well as buying fruit from other Red Mountain and Horse Heaven Hills vineyards.  Alex’s uncle, Andre Tchelistcheff, helped him make his first wines and define the supple, elegant style that remains the Quilceda hallmark.

Since 1998, Alex’s son Paul has been winemaker, achieving a remarkable SIX 100-point Parker scores.  Paul’s style is full-bodied, balanced wines with enough new oak to support the bold fruit.  He sells his Tarransaud barriques to other wineries after the 2nd use.  In 2003 the Chateau was completed, and in 2011 a completely new winery replaced the garage that had been used since the beginning.  The result is dramatic, yet surprisingly elegant wines.

Interesting fact:  Golitzin’s relative (the family’s heritage is Russian), Pavel Tchelitchew was the artist selected to design the 1956 Mouton-Rothschild label.
