Lua Cheia em Vinhas Velhas, Portugal

We find it hard to restrain our enthusiasm for these wines. You may not recognize the grape names, but trust us, Portugal is a treasure-trove of unique, interesting, noble varieties. The term 'Vinhas Velhas', meaning 'Old Vines', is part of the winery name, and represents winemaker Francisco Baptista's philosophy of finding ancient vineyards to craft the most expressive wines.

Maria Bonita is 100% Loureiro from the Vinho Verde region of north-western Portugal – located between the cold North Atlantic and the mountains – the wine has a distinctly maritime character. Enjoy this with fresh fish and shellfish, such as spicy tuna tartare, chilled shrimp, scallop ceviche, fresh oysters – yum!

87 points 'Best Buy' - Wine Enthusiast
"A soft, open wine from the central part of Vinho Verde, this conveys citrus, but with a gentle texture. Perfumed and crisp at the end, the wine is ready to drink."

Lua Cheia Tinto (Tinto = Red wine) is an old vines field blend, including Tourigal Nacional & Touriga Franc, from vineyards in the famous regions that produces Port. Try it with roast chicken, glazed pork loin, or a dish of roasted cauliflower, squash & figs.

90 points 'Best Buy' - Wine Enthusiast
"This is an impressive wine with its mineral structure, firm tannins and rich fruit. Dark blackberry flavors are filled out with the solid core of the wine and lifted by the acidity. From a field blend of old vines, the wine needs some aging."

Try a mixed case from Northern Portugal - you'll amaze your friends (and satisfy your soul).

6 bottles each -

Cave Spring, Niagara

Founded in 1986 by the Pennachetti family and winemaker Angelo Pavan, Cave Spring is one of Canada's benchmark wineries, and one of the country's most-heralded internationally. The stunningly beautiful Cave Spring Vineyard on the Beamsville Bench rolls toward Lake Ontario from the foot of a limestone cliff – the Niagara escarpment – benefiting from both protection and a constant breeze which temper the climate.

“There’s probably no better estate than this in all of Canada, given its long track record for excellence, the large number of wines made and its willingness to innovate.  The CSV is a benchmark Canadian Riesling, which embodies the richer, riper but very mineral, peachy style typical of the Beamsville Bench.” — Ian D’Agata, Decanter Magazine (UK)

Wine Enthusiast Magazine (US) nominated Cave Spring Cellars for its prestigious 2018 Wine Star Award in the category of New World Winery of the Year. Cave Spring is among only five wine estates worldwide, and the only Canadian winery, to receive the distinction. Nominated alongside Cave Spring were Bodega Garzón (Uruguay), Felton Road (New Zealand), L’Avenir (South Africa) and Trapiche (Argentina).

Wine & Spirits Magazine (US) selected Cave Spring Cellars as one of the publication’s “Top 100 Wineries of 2018.” Cave Spring is the only Canadian winery to be recognized with this prestigious award.
Now in its 32nd year, the annual awards go to wineries that have earned the highest scores and most consistent performances in the publication’s blind tastings. Each year Wine & Spirits panels and critics taste more than 15,000 wines from around the world and present the most distinctive to its readers.
